Summer Session I at Ballet Taos is designed to give students a deeper understanding of classical ballet technique, refine their artistry, and strengthen their physique. World class guest faculty Jock Soto and Jefferson Baum will share their expertise in a small class setting which allows for individual critique and attention necessary to take your training to the next level. The core curriculum includes, technique, pointe, partnering, and repertoire.
In addition to technique classes, this four week training course is augmented by strength and conditioning classes, yoga for ballet dancers, jazz dance, character class and modern dance focusing on Limón, Graham and Horton techniques.

Jock Soto, former Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet and Master Teacher at the School of American Ballet, will be teaching two Master Classes at Ballet Taos on February 24, 2018. Classical ballet technique, 2:30 - 2:00 P.M., levels III/IV (Dancers ages 10 and up dancing at an intermediate level) and classical ballet technique and partnering, 2:15 - 4:00 P.M., levels V/VI (Dancers ages 14 and up dancing at the intermediate – professional levels).
This class is being offered to ALL dancers at these levels in our region. Space is limited. Please confirm your attendance ASAP.
“A New Mexico Nutcracker” is a restaging of the original ballet “The Nutcracker” which integrates the diverse cultures, history, and beauty of Northern New Mexico. Set in 20th century Taos, historical figures, such as Mabel Dodge Lujan, grace the stage to tell the story of a young girl’s coming of age. Professional ballet dancers, Flamenco dancers, Mariachi musicians, Hoop dancers from Taos Pueblo, gymnasts, aerialists and accomplished actors will be performing alongside young dancers and artists from our community to create a ballet that is uniquely Taos. This annual production, preformed every December, will bring together an audience of all ages to enjoy and to educate our community about the art of dance and to explore the history and cultural roots of Taos. We will be holding open auditions for dancers of all ages from Taos and the surrounding regions. Dancers with no formal dance experience are strongly encouraged to attend the audition as casting in our production includes enrollment in a training program designed to better prepare chosen individuals for the stage.
Principals, Soloists, Demi-soloists, and Corps de Ballet. (Advanced dancers who are not on pointe are encouraged to attend this audition. Pointe experience is not mandatory.) Dancers please arrive 30 minutes early to register and prepare.
