Rio Hondo Artists’ Residency (RHAR)

Rio Hondo Artists’ Residency (RHAR) is an annual dance-based artistic residency program designed to forge connections: to the land, to local culture, and between people.

From June 22-July 3, 2026, RHAR will bring together selected dance artists from across the country to work in collaboration with local Taos artists who work in many mediums. Together, they will create work directly inspired by this place and its people. The dream of RHAR's founders is that the days spent together strengthen the network of artists collaborating in Taos and beyond to create a richer and more interconnected tapestry of artistic voices in New Mexico.

Taos was chosen as the location for RHAR because it is a community that embraces its people and inspires us to lift each other up. The founders also recognize that Taos is a rural community where people lack access to services and artists may feel like they are working in isolation, and the RHAR aims to minimizes the impact of these problems by creating a reciprocal relationship between creators and audience members designed to activate the entire community through free programming and events that give people direct access to the arts-making process.
